After receiving his Army discharge, Barbee relocated to New York City and started studying Islam under the guidance of numerous eminent masters. Barbee established the Islamic Dawah Centre of New York City in the year 2000. The center's mission is to inform and engage the broader public about Islam. In addition, Barbee has provided consulting services to a number of other Islamic institutions.
