About The Author:

Ibn Kathir, whose full name is Ab al-Fid Isml ibn Umar ibn Kathr al-Qurash al-Damishq, was a prominent Arab historian, exegete, and scholar who lived in Syria during the Mamluk dynasty. Around AH 701 (AD 1300/1) he was born in the Syrian village of Mijdal, which is located outside of Busra, east of Damascus. Ibn Taymiyya and Al-Dhahabi both instructed him. After completing his studies, he was given his first official position in 1341 when he joined an inquisitorial panel established to address various issues of heresy.
